Just in case anyone was wondering, the "g" in stereognosis is actually silent (∴ pronounced stereo-KNOW-sis). Literally, it means to recognize what something is without seeing it. However, the word gnōsis is actually derived from the Greek word, γνῶσις, which actually refers to revelatory or mystical knowledge (phonetically related to the Gnostics and Gnosticism). If "stereo" (short for stereophonic--with regard to sensation, the ability to detect sound transmission from two sources, e.g. to determine the distance of something without seeing it) is combined with "gnōsis" in this context, the combined term might actually come closer to meaning, "The Mysticism of Sound and Music" which is actually the title of a book written by the Sufi vina player Hazrat Inayat Khan, a book which has had an extremely profound influence on me over the years that I have spent creating this album. Honestly, I think "deeply" beautiful music is translatable without language--you KNOW it when you HEAR it. With all the misunderstanding, violence, and suffering that surrounds us, one has to wonder...if words fail to help us understand each other, perhaps we should try music.
We hope you enjoy what we have created here. Peace and blessings, -p.a.
